rid, rid'-ans: "Rid" originally meant "rescue" (the King James Version Gen 37:22; Ex 6:6; Ps 82:4; 144:7,11), whence the meaning "remove" or "clean out" (Lev 26:6 the King James Version, with "riddance" in Lev 23:22; Zeph 1:18). The word occurs in the American Standard Revised Version and in the English Revised Version in Ex 6:6. |
