Isaiah 7:14 Bible Prophecy about the Messiah Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Jesus was Born of the Virgin Mary Luke 1:34-35 Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?" And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Key Points: - The Jewish scholars who translated the Septuagint (Hebrew into Greek translation in 2nd cent B.C.) used the Greek word for "virgin" and not the word for young maiden. Heb. "Almah"; Gr. "Parthenos" - The context of Isaiah 7:14 identifies the Son of the virgin as the Messiah. - As Isaiah was speaking with king Ahaz about signs within his own family, the house of David, the Lord reveals to him a greater sign that is to occur in Davidís family, the virgin birth of the greater Son of David in the future, for all mankind to behold. - The "Lord" is mentioned here as "adonai" the sovereign master. - The Lord offered the sign. - "Imanu El" is Hebrew and means "with us is our God". - A "sign" was a miracle with special significance to point to something. - The "virgin" mentioned here is not named, but the sign was to happen within Davidís family and even within Ahazís own household. - The New Testament reveals Mary as the "virgin" and Jesus as the "Son".
