Maps & Geography
General Map History Homepage
`Map history`, more formally the `history of cartography`, is now an established academic discipline. Its concern is with non-current maps produced in, or of, any part of the world. Its practitioners come largely from history, geography or librarianship but the diverse purposes of early maps and the varied interpretations to which they lend themselves means that the history of cartography is a multi-disciplinary subject.
MapHist ( E-mail Discussion Group )
MapHist, the Map History Discussion List, is an e-mail discussion group whose primary focus is historical maps, atlases, globes and other cartographic documents. The list is open to all persons interested in the history of cartography and discussion is encouraged on all aspects of this broad subject.
