Jaulan. Region. Heb. Golan. Region of the city Golan. It was a limestone plateau with a top layer of black basalt from volcanic deposit forming mysterious gorges. From the lake you could see walls of hills and the edge of the Jaulan plateau.
Gaulanitis was the district-name during the N.T. period. It was part of the territory of Philip the Tetrarch (Luke 3:1).
