JEGAR-SAHADUTHA
="heap of witness." The Aramaic or Chaldee name given by the Syrian Laban to the stone heap commemorating his compact with Jacob, whereon they ate together. see GALEED , "a witness heap," the Hebrew name given by Jacob. The whole region was already "Gilead," i.e. hard rocky region, and Jacob made the word by a slight change to mark a crisis in his history (Genesis 31:44-55).
