Does the Bible Mention the Mediterranean Sea?
The Mediterranean Sea is referred to in the Bible as the “Great Sea” (Numbers 34:6; Joshua 1:4). It is located on the western side of the Old Testament World, and is in the very center of the New Testament World. Although Jesus did most of his ministry deep within the land of Israel, it does say that he visited the Phoenician areas of Tyre and Sidon. Paul the apostle on the other hand spent much of his ministry traveling on the Mediterranean Sea visiting cities In Asia Minor and Greece and even Italy establishing churches and ministering the gospel. The Bible says Paul was shipwrecked while on his journey to Rome.
