Painted sketch of Ephesus.
Ephesus was located on the western side of Asia Minor, and was the
second largest city in the Roman Empire after Rome. It was famous for
the Temple of Diana (Artemis), one of the wonders of the ancient world.
Ephesus also contained the largest theater in the world, seating 50,000
spectators. Ephesus was one of the seven churches of Asia mentioned in
the Book of Revelation. Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus in the Book
of Ephesians. |
