hannibal_coin_color.gif This coin (Punic shekel) is one of the few known likenesses we have of Hannibal, one of the greatest military strategists of all time, he pillaged Italy for more than 10 years and almost ruined Rome. Hannibal was defeated by Scipio at Zama in north Africa in 202 BC when he was called home to defend Carthage.
