Jesus began with a statement about their official position as teachers in the
line of succession to Moses. "They sit' in Moses' seat," He observed, in biting
sarcasm. "Therefore, all things whatsoever they may speak to you, do and keep;
but do not practice after the manner of their deeds. For they say, and don't
practice what they preach."
