The Second Woe
The second woe revealed the extreme hatefulness of their hypocrisy as seen in
their robbing of the houses of the helpless widows, whom they deceive into
giving their houses to the Temple, only to acquire the property to their own
selfish and private purposes. These same hypocrites would stand in the Temple and
publicly make long prayers in pious pretense. Jesus warned them that "they shall
receive the more abundant condemnation."
