4th month of the civil calendar.

Tebeth 1 - New Moon

 

December would bring heavier rains and cooler weather. Fruit trees would ripen with their oranges, citrons, and lemons. The vines would be pruned.

 

Note: Tradition taught the year would be fertile if the month of Tebeth be "ugly" (rainy) and not "widowed" (rainless).

 

Traditional Remembrances:

Tibeth 1,2 - The 7th and 8th days Hanukkah.

Tibeth 5 –

Tibeth 8 – Commemorates the completion of the Septuagint translation.

Tibeth - Fast day (reasons unknown). Commemorates the death of Ezra.

Tibeth 10 - Fast day commemorating the beginning of the siege of Jerusalem under Nebuchadnezzar, Ezekiel also received his revelation on this day.

Tibeth 25 - Alexander the Great appeared before the walls of Jerusalem.

Tibeth 28 – Commemorates the event when the majority of the Sanhedrin passed over to the Pharisees.
