HEROD THE GREAT'S TEMPLE (From Naves Topical Bible)
46 Years in building
John 2:20-22
20 Then the Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and
will You raise it up in three days?"
21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.
22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that
He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which
Jesus had said.

Mark 13:1-2
- Then as He went out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, "Teacher,
see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!"

stone shall be left upon another, that shall not be thrown down."
Magnificence of

down."

11 Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the
people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon's, greatly amazed.
12 So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: "Men of Israel, why do
you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or
godliness we had made this man walk?
Acts 5:12-14
12 And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done

Treasury of
Mark 12:41-44
41 Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into
the treasury. And many who were rich put in much.
42 Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans.
43 So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Assuredly, I say
to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the
treasury;
44 for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put
in all that she had, her whole livelihood."

Luke 2:25-32
25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this
man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy
Spirit was upon him.
26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see
death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in
the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law,
28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:
29 "Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace,
According to Your word;
30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation
31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people
Israel."

from her virginity;
37 and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart
from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
38 And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to
all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

46 Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting
in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. 48
So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, "Son, why
have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously."
49 And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be
about My Father's business?"

the temple,
6 and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is

shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.'"
7 Jesus said to him, "It is written again, 'You shall not tempt the LORD your
God.'"

who gave You this authority to do these things?"
Mark 12:35-37
35 Then Jesus answered and said, while He taught in the temple, "How is it
that the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David?
36 For David himself said by the Holy Spirit: 'The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit
at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool."'
37 Therefore David himself calls Him 'Lord'; how is He then his Son?"
Mark 14:48-49
48 Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Have you come out, as against a
robber, with swords and clubs to take Me?
49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize Me. But
the Scriptures must be fulfilled."

John 18:20-22
20 Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in
synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always meet, and in secret I have said
nothing.
21 Why do you ask Me? Ask those who have heard Me what I said to them. Indeed
they know what I said."
22 And when He had said these things, one of the officers who stood by struck
Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, "Do You answer the high priest like
that?"

did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of
David!" they were indignant

them, "Yes. Have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have perfected praise'?"

this is your hour, and the power of darkness."

the Sadducees came upon them,
- being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the

it was already evening.
- However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men
came to be about five thousand.
Acts 5:23-28
24 Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the chief priests
heard these things, they wondered what the outcome would be.
25 So one came and told them, saying, "Look, the men whom you put in prison
are standing in the temple and teaching the people!"
26 Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence,
for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.
27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the
high priest asked them,
28 saying,"Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And
look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man's
blood on us!"

put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood."
- And they consulted together and bought with them the potter's field, to bury
strangers in.
- Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.

daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those
who entered the temple;
- who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms.
- And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, "Look at us."
- So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.
- Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give
you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk."
Disciples preach in
Acts 5:20-21

life."

have them brought.

Paul's vision in
Acts 22:17-21
17 "Now it happened, when I returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the
temple, that I was in a trance
18 and saw Him saying to me, 'Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, for
they will not receive your testimony concerning Me.'
19 So I said, 'Lord, they know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat
those who believe on You.
20 And when the blood of Your martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by
consenting to his death, and guarding the clothes of those who were killing
him.'
21 Then He said to me, 'Depart, for I will send you far from here to the
Gentiles.'"
Paul observes the rights of

entered the temple to announce the expiration of the days of purification, at
which time an offering should be made for each one of them.
27 Now when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews from Asia, seeing him
in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him,
28 crying out, "Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches all men
everywhere against the people, the law, and this place; and furthermore he also
brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place."
29(For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city,
whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)
30 And all the city was disturbed; and the people ran together, seized Paul,
and dragged him out of the temple; and immediately the doors were shut.
Paul is apprehended in
Acts 21:32-36
33 Then the commander came near and took him, and commanded him to be bound
with two chains; and he asked who he was and what he had done.
34 And some among the multitude cried one thing and some another. So when he
could not ascertain the truth because of the tumult, he commanded him to be
taken into the barracks.
35 When he reached the stairs, he had to be carried by the soldiers because of
the violence of the mob.
36 For the multitude of the people followed after, crying out," Away with him!"
Prophecies concerning its destruction, by Daniel
Dan 8:11-14
11 He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the
daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down.
12 Because of transgression, an army was given over to the horn to oppose the
daily sacrifices; and he cast truth down to the ground. He did all this and
prospered.
13 Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to that certain
one who was speaking, "How long will the vision be, concerning the daily
sacrifices and the transgression of desolation, the giving of both the sanctuary and
the host to be trampled underfoot?"
14 And he said to me, "For two thousand three hundred days; then the sanctuary
shall be cleansed."
Dan 11:30-31
30 For ships from Cyprus shall come against him; therefore he shall be
grieved, and return in rage against the holy covenant, and do damage. "So he shall
return and show regard for those who forsake the holy covenant.
31 And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary
fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the
abomination of desolation.
Jesus foretells the destruction of
Matt 24
24:1 Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came
up to show Him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say
to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown
down."
3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately,
saying,"Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your
coming, and of the end of the age?"
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you.
5 For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive
many.
6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled;
for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
- For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there
will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
- All these are the beginning of sorrows.
- "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be
hated by all nations for My name's sake.
- And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one
another.
- Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.
- And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
- But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
- And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness
to all the nations, and then the end will come.
- "Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel
the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand),
- "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
- Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house.
- And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.
- But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those
days!
- And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.
- For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the
beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.
- And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the
elect's sake those days will be shortened.
- "Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There!' do not
believe it.
- For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and
wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
- See, I have told you beforehand.
- "Therefore if they say to you, 'Look, He is in the desert!' do not go out; or
'Look, He is in the inner rooms!' do not believe it.
- For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will
the coming of the Son of Man be.
- For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
- "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and
the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the
powers of the heavens will be shaken.
- Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes
of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds
of heaven with power and great glory.
- And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will
gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the
other.
- "Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become
tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
- So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near -- at the
doors!
- Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all
these things take place.
- Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
- "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My
Father only.
- But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
- For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying
and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,
- and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the
coming of the Son of Man be.
- Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left.
- Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.
42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.
43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the
thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken
into.
44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do
not expect.
45 "Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over
his household, to give them food in due season?
6 Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.
47 Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But if that evil servant says in his heart, 'My master is delaying his
coming,' 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with
the drunkards,
50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for
him and at an hour that he is not aware of,
51 and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites.
There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
