Lavish Spending

Agrippa borrowed large sums of money and then spent the money on lavish living accumulating debts. In 23 A.D. his childhood companion Drusus suddenly died, having been poisoned by Sejanus, and Agrippa lost the support and favor of the court which forced him to retire quietly to Maltha, a fortress in Idumea, leaving many angry creditors behind him in Rome. He returned to Judea in poverty, utterly depressed over his humiliation and contemplated suicide according to Josephus.
