Imperial Debt

coins_agrippa_1_small.gifAgrippa had wanted to return to Italy but did not have the money to do so. He took out another large loan from a man named Protos and sailed for Alexandria, and was almost caught by an imperial procurator named Herennius Capito, who sought payment from Agrippa for his outstanding debts to the imperial treasury (Ant 18:156-158).

At Alexandria Agrippa's wife, Cypros, obtained a loan from Alexander the alabarch, who had previously turned down Agrippa for a loan.
