Aenon
F8 on the Map
(? springs N. of Kh. Umm el `Umdan). A place on the River Jordan near Salim, where John baptized (John 3:23). It was located in the Beth Shan Valley, about six miles S. of Beth Shan, according to Eusebius. The Medaba Map shows another Aenon, on the left bank of the Jordan River where, according to a sixth century Christian tradition, there was a cave known as Safsafas where Jesus dwelt while he was visiting John the Baptist.
