Son of Shelemiah, "captain of the ward"; met Jeremiah at the Jerusalem "gate of Benjamin," accused him of deserting to the Chaldees, and brought him to the princes (Jeremiah 37:13-14). The death of Hananiah Iri's grandfather, for false prophecy, was foretold by Jeremiah; the grandson now takes his revenge (Jeremiah 28:16).
